Straight for Novice and Beginner Novice

With the dog sitting in heel position, the judge will order the handler to leave their dog; the handler will walk to the opposite side of the ring (or to the end of their 6 foot leash if doing Beginner’s Novice) and turn to face the dog.  The judge will order the handler to call their dog.  The handler will either call the dog or signal the dog to come.  The dog is expected to come to front and finish when told.

Drop on Recall for Open and Graduate Novice

The handler leaves the dog as in the Straight Recall exercise.  On the judge's order, the handler will call or signal the dog to come.  Half way upon its return, the judge will issue a signal to the handler to drop the dog, the handler will command or signal the dog to "down" (in Graduate Novice the handler is allowed to give both verbal and hand signal).  The dog must stop, drop completely into a down and stay in position until commanded (verbal or signal) to resume coming in to the front of the handler.  The dog will finish when directed to do so.

Dumbbell Recall for Graduate Novice

This exercise will be performed and scored like the Straight Recall with the following additions: the handler, upon the judge's order, will present a dumbbell to the dog, who will promptly take it in its mouth.  The handler will go to the opposite side of the ring and upon the judge's order will call the dog to come.  The dog must come to front and deliver the dumbbell to the handler, only releasing when told to do so.  The dog will finish when directed.

Recall Over: High Jump and Broad Jump for Graduate Novice

The dog and handler will set themselves up 8 feet from the high jump or broad jump respectively.  Upon the judge's order the handler will leave the dog and walk to the other side of each jump, about 8 feet away, facing the dog.  Once directed, the handler will command the dog to come/jump.  The dog must clear the jump completely without further direction and immediately sit in front of its handler.  The dog will then finish when directed.
