Examinations
Sit For Exam for Beginner Novice
This exercise is a modified version of the Novice Stand for Exam and is done on leash. The handler will face the judge with the dog sitting in heel position. The judge will order the handler to sit the dog, and then leave the dog; the handler will move to the end of the 6 foot leash, turn and face the dog. The judge will approach the dog and briefly pat the dog's head. The judge will order the handler "Back to your dog". The handler will walk around the dog and return to heel position.

Stand For Exam for Novice
This exercise is done off leash. The handler will face the judge with the dog sitting in heel position. The judge will order the handler to "Stand your dog"; the handler will stand the dog and leave from heel position. The handler will walk 6 feet away (usually to where the judge is standing), turn and face the dog while the judge approaches the dog and briefly touches his head, shoulders, and hips, before moving away. The judge will order the handler "Back to your dog". The handler will walk around the dog and return to heel position.

Tip for Sit/Stand for Exams: Points will be lost when a handler does not leave from or return to heel position; as a handler it is important to fully understand where heel position is.
Moving Stand and Examination for Utility
As the name suggests, the moving stand is not a stationary exercise. The dog and handler will face the judge at one end of the ring. When directed, the team will heel towards the judge, midway through the judge will order the handler to "Stand your dog", the handler will, without hesitation, command and/or signal the dog to stand while continuing on a forward path for about 10 feet (usually to where the judge is standing). The dog is expected to immediately stop in position. The handler will turn to face the dog while the judge does a very thorough physical exam from head to tail before moving away. The judge will order the handler to "Call your dog to heel". Unlike every other exercise, the dog will not return and sit in front of its handler but will return directly to heel position.
In Graduate Open the exercise is identical to the Moving Stand with one exception; the handler may pause or hesitate when giving the command to stand and before moving away.
