Dear BCOA Member,

We will be sending out your dues renewal (and Roster update) notices shortly -- to ALL members.

Those who are subscribed to the BCOA Announce Email List will receive their renewal notices via email. 

  • If you have trouble opening the renewal form (sent as a WORD document):
  • A blank PDF version of the form is available on the BCOA website. 

·                     The rest of you will receive your renewal notices in the mail.

Dues this year

  • Single membership $25.00
  • Family (Household) membership $35.00
  • Associate membership $35.00
  • Junior membership (with adult member) $3.00
  • Junior membership (alone) $10.00

New this year:

BCOA will have an additional login-protected online roster for 2011. Your email address and phone number will be in the online version of the roster, but your street address will not.  This is in the Member’s area of the website, behind a login.  If you don't want to be in the online roster, your name and state/country will still appear, but no other information.  This is a convenience for our members to quickly look up basic contact information. There is an opt out option on the renewal form.

Further notes:

  • As of January 1st, you may both complete your renewal form and pay your dues on-line at  http://www.basenji.org/2011membershiprenewal.htm
  • If you choose to participate in the Breeder’s Directory on the website, you must print and mail in that form, including your signature, to the BCOA Treasurer.
  • If you are not receiving your Bulletin Board via email, please consider changing your preferences to receive your Bulletin Board via email.  We are no longer sending the Bulletin Board as an email attachment, but as a link to the Bulletin Board on the BCOA website.  This should eliminate any problems you may have had before with downloading the newsletter via email.  If you can open the newsletter on the BCOA website, electronic notification that the Bulletin Board is available is the fastest and most economical way for you to receive your Bulletin Board newsletter.  Check it out - you can find both current and past newsletters here:   https://www.basenji.org/joomla/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=5&Itemid=81

  • Some of you have paid your dues in advance and some are lifetime members.  You do not owe any dues!!!  Nevertheless, you will all receive a 'renewal' notice.  This is so that you may check and, if necessary, update your BCOA Roster information.  The "Paid thru" information at the bottom of the second page of the renewal notice shows how far in advance you have paid your dues.  For lifetime members, this 'Paid thru' year is listed as '9999'.

DEADLINES Reminder:

  • Dues are payable by February 1, 2011.   A membership will lapse if dues remain unpaid by February 1, 2011. The Grace Period ends March 1, 2011. After that date your membership will end. No Exceptions! Article I: Section 4 (B).  BCOA dues are not tax deductible.   $$$$$   $25.00 Charge for ALL Returned Checks!!  $$$$$
  • Although the dues deadlines are now February 1, 2011 with a grace period through March 1, 2011, the Roster publication schedule has not changed.  Dues must be received by February 1, 2011 to guarantee your place in the Roster.  Members whose dues are received during the February grace period will retain their memberships, but will not be listed in the Roster!

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT ON THE EDITORIAL REVIEW OF BCOA PUBLICATIONS

 

Dear BCOA members,

The initial explanation of the Editorial Review Committee (ERC) was published in the 4th Quarter Bulletin, but since questions have been submitted to the Board, the following is additional information about this Committee that will be published in the January 2011 Bulletin Board newsletter.

The purpose of the ERC is to review all BCOA publications before they are printed to ensure the BCOA is compliant with issues related to copyright and protected from libel and/or inflammatory materials. It is not a review for grammar, style, advertisements or political correctness, and not intended to stifle respectful debate.

The review is strictly for serious issues, and those issues should occur only rarely.  In those very rare cases where a serious issue arises, there would be the opportunity to address it prior to publication, to better serve all members of the BCOA. Since the editors of the BCOA publications are not typically members of the BCOA Board, they would not be aware of sensitive matters under executive review.

Thus the committee composition - a lawyer who can evaluate legal implications of issues, at least one Board member who will know if there are sensitive matters under Board review, and at least one club member who is very familiar with the history of the club. 

This first review was to be done by our legal adviser and board member.  This review was requested on advice of counsel, based on specific concerns that she discovered when doing other work for the club.  The review process including deadlines have not yet been worked out with the editors of The Bulletin or the Roster, but the intention is to be as non-interference as possible.

The Bulletin Board has been reviewed for the past year by the President using similar guidelines, initiated to avoid missing or incorrect ballots, and it has worked to the satisfaction of the editor and BOD.  In the unlikely event that Board business / reports were similarly missing from a Bulletin issue, this could be corrected prior to going to print.
