The Basenji Club of Greater Houston welcomes anyone interested in Basenjis to our meetings, held in members' homes on the fourth Wednesday of February, April, June, August, and October at 7:30 p.m. In December we welcome you to our Christmas party. Our goals as a club are as stated in most club constitutions, basically to do all in the members' power to protect and advance the interest of our breed and to encourage good sportsmanship in competitions, under the auspices of the American Kennel Club. Because of limited resources, we have not applied to give AKC-licensed shows. We have hosted the BCOA National Specialty in 1988 and one year in the '70s. Recently we have turned our efforts towards education, particularly seminars, sponsoring Pat Hastings in 1996 and George Alston in 1998. We do our best in local rescue, although we desperately need more foster homes (what club doesn't?) We enjoy the camaraderie of competing with our show dogs and of telling marvelous tales of our pets. We try to help anyone who needs advice about Basenjis, including those who have dogs from the local puppy mills. Again, a hearty Texas welcome to all Basenji lovers! |
