BCOA Membership

The goal of the Basenji Club of America is to encourage and promote quality in the breeding of pure bred Basenjis and to do all possible to bring their natural qualities to perfection.  BCOA urges its  members  to accept the Standard of the breed as approved by the AKC as the only Standard of Excellence by which Basenjis shall be judged.

The Club is not conducted or operated for profit.

Membership Benefits

Basic membership benefits are automatically included with BCOA Membership, along with special members-only services:

  • Opportunity for basenji fanciers to meet others who are involved basenjis in many ways by socializing  with other basenji fanciers, judges and breeders.

  • Opportunity to learn about & participate in many aspects of basenji competitions such as obedience, conformation, lure coursing, agility, tracking and more.

  • Opportunity to give back to the the breed by way of being involved in community education programs and the Basenji Health Endowment.

  • Subscription to the BULLETIN Quarterly Magazine, The BULLETIN BOARD Newsletter & the Annual Club Roster.

  • Access to the BCOA website Members Only pages, for exclusive information about the breed, events, club & breed information.

Most of all, BCOA membership affords the opportunity to influence the preservation & integrity of the Basenji by making your voice heard as an active club member.


Membership Eligibility

Membership shall be open to all persons who are in good standing with the American Kennel Club and who subscribe to the purposes of this Club and agree to abide by its Constitution and By-Laws.


Membership Types

Membership shall be open to all persons who are in good standing with the American Kennel Club and who subscribe to the purposes of this Club. There are several types of membership:

Regular
Any person who has reached his or her 18th birthday and is a resident of the United States may become a regular member with full privileges from the date of membership. Regular members may vote and may hold office

There shall be two classes of regular membership:

Single
Single membership is defined as membership held by one adult member who holds individual voting privileges.

Household
Household membership is defined as membership held by two adult persons residing at the same address. Each household member holds individual voting privileges.

BCOA has other membership options:

Associate

Those who meet the requirements for regular membership but are not residents of the United States are eligible.  Associate members may not vote, hold office, or sponsor new regular voting members. Associate members may sponsor new
non-voting associate members. Two adults residing at the same address may have an Associate Household membership.

Junior
Any person under 18 years of age is classed as a junior member. Junior membership not in conjunction with regular single or household membership will receive a subscription to the Club BULLETIN and Bulletin Board Newsletter.
Junior members may not vote nor hold office.

Lifetime
The Club may appoint lifetime members in recognition of outstanding service to the breed. Lifetime members may be nominated either by a petition addressed to the Secretary, signed by five members in good standing,  or by majority vote of the Board. Nominees are notified of their nomination by the Club Secretary and given the option of accepting or declining the nomination. Those accepting nomination are submitted to the Club membership for vote and lifetime membership granted if the nominee receives affirmative votes of 2/3 of those voting. Lifetime members shall hold individual voting privileges, but  do not pay dues.


How to Become a Member

The application process requires submission of a Membership Application Form to the Club Secretary.  Applications must be endorsed by two BCOA members in good standing, not residing in the same household, who must sign the application form.  The application must be accompanied by the first year's dues. Annual Membership Renewal

Membership is renewed annually.   Annual dues are payable by February 1st of each year & membership lapses if dues are unpaid.
