Junior Members

BCOA has a rich history of supporting youngsters and their love of basenjis.  From the competitive venues, including AKC Junior Showmanship and performance events, to creative and academic endeavors, BCOA encourages young basenji enthusiasts to become more involved in all aspects of responsible ownership.

Juniors can participate in performance events & earn certificates from AKC's Junior Recognition Program. ASFA has a TLC Program for Lure Coursing and Juniors can also participate in 4H Projects with their basenjis.

Junior Showmanship

Juniors represent the future of basenjis and in addition to learning the mechanics of showing their basenji, Juniors learn the importance of good sportsmanship.  BCOA tracks accomplishments of juniors competing in AKC events & proudly keeps a tally of all juniors who handle basenjis in AKC shows.

Showmanship Tally
The current tally, provided by Joel Brody, is online here and was gathered from AKC statistics. The usual source of our tally is BestJunior.com a private not-for-profit web site providing AKC statistics for the Junior Showmanship exhibitor and their parents. Their goal is to help juniors connect with each other and express and exchange ideas. It is their commitment to provide parents, Kennel Clubs and all others interested with a reliable source of information.

In addition, they keep a comprehensive tally of competition placements to produce an excellent tally of all children competing in Junior Showmanship Competitions.  Their statistics are compiled using the total number of competitors defeated from 1-4 placements and Best Junior points from the open & novice classes.

Every month, on or about the 15th, the site receives a Junior Showmanship report from the American Kennel Club. This report contains every kennel club that had a junior show entry with classes and placements listed for the past month. From this report they compile statistics on all children who compete in Junior Showmanship competitions.
