The Newest African Imports

There have been several importations of dogs from Africa since the last registered foundation stock Basenjis were accepted by the American Kennel Club in 1990.  In August 2008 the AKC Board of Directors voted to allow opening the Studbook to native stock Basenjis.  The actual submission can be seen here: "Basenji Club of America Petition to Open the AKC Studbook to Native Stock Basenjis". There is an online news article about opening the studbook at the AKC website entitled "American Kennel Club Opens Basenji Stud Book" (Monday, August 18, 2008).

ANNOUNCEMENT: The ten native stock imports who were submitted and voted on have all now been approved by the BCOA membership and AKC registration is proceeding. Click here to see a copy of the Tally Report 2009 from the voting. You may view the dogs who have been approved here.
