The Newest African Imports
There have been several importations of dogs from Africa since the last registered foundation stock Basenjis were accepted by the American Kennel Club in 1990. In August 2008 the AKC Board of Directors voted to allow opening the Studbook to native stock Basenjis. The actual submission can be seen here: "Basenji Club of America Petition to Open the AKC Studbook to Native Stock Basenjis". There is an online news article about opening the studbook at the AKC website entitled "American Kennel Club Opens Basenji Stud Book" (Monday, August 18, 2008).
ANNOUNCEMENT: Applications have been received for three imports to be consideredat this time. The BCOA Board of Directors has approved these dogs. The general membership ballot will be mailed after the official publication in the BCOA Bulletin. Click here to see these dogs and read the details of their applications.
