The Newest African Imports
There have been several importations of dogs from Africa since the last registered foundation stock Basenjis were accepted by the American Kennel Club in 1990. In August 2008 the AKC Board of Directors voted to allow opening the Studbook to native stock Basenjis. The actual submission can be seen here: "Basenji Club of America Petition to Open the AKC Studbook to Native Stock Basenjis". There is an online news article about opening the studbook at the AKC website entitled "American Kennel Club Opens Basenji Stud Book" (Monday, August 18, 2008).
The procedures and forms necessary for applying to register a dog imported from Africa can be found by linking to the Required Forms webpage.

Responses to Frequently Asked Questions are now available.
The current pages below have been put together by the BCOA's Native Stock Committee. It is not known which of the dogs imported will become registered foundation stock. It is not known at this time which of the dogs will actually have applications for registration made. Several of the dogs went to Europe. These are welcome here as well. When applications come in they will be published on these pages.
The people who have imported the dogs, have given them names which indicate which group they are in and which part of Africa they are from. Click on these four prefixes to find out about the dogs from that group:
